| Our country was founded by atheists! Thomas Jefferson was one of the most anti-god figures in all of history.\n\nThe \"In god we trust\" phrase wasn\'t added to US currency until the mid 1900\'s. Our founding fathers would be physically sick if they could see the level of ignorance that is so prevalent in our country.\n\nThe ideas our country was founded on include freedom, justice, liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness. | After the numerous Supreme Court decisions upholding atheists' rights through the first amendment? I do not think that "one must believe". This is yet another case of an ignorant evangelical bigot.

Indeed, by going on, taking prayer out of the schools was the best thing the government did in a long time - separation of church and state is the only way to preserve religious (And non-religious) freedom.
With the final statement, I think the idiocy of this entire article is summarised. How somebody can actually assert that atheists have caused crime to grow rampant by not committing crimes in a society that is predominantly (and unfortunately so) Christian, is beyond me.

| Most of the founding fathers i.e. Goerge Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin didn't believe in the christian god. They just thought there was a god and thats about it. And what exactly is the difference between Baptist, Catholic, and Methodist? Sounds the same to me. Plus if you're free to believe whatever you want aren't you also free to not believe whatever you want? And if people don't commit crime how do the cause crime to be rampant? You might think this is a joke but I'm seriously confused about this stuff can you help me out a bit.

Also, prayer was taken out of public schools because they are just that, public, meaning that children of any faith can and will attend it, and it would be discrimination against their beliefs to force them to participate in other religion's rituals, such as praying.
