The Urdu word 'Firaaq' means both separation and quest and is a suitable title for the movie. The film has five stories put together on a single celluloid canvas. The theme of ‘Firaaq’ carries out the impact of violence on human psyche and relationships.
Nandita Das has also been a social activist and the seeds of this film were sown by her experiences while dealing with issues of violence and human rights violation. ‘Firaaq’ is a story that all will relate to, as it is a universal feeling to yearn for peace in the world of violence we live in today.
Going back to Nandita’s track records, she has given heart touching performances in over 30 films spread over 10 different languages. She has won numerous recognitions both on national and international platforms. It is remarkable to see that her movie and her work as a social activist move towards the same goal.
This movie will reach the crowds in October and we will see some of the best in the industry come together for a powerful performance: Nasseruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Dipti Naval, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Suri and Tisca Chopra are the veterans while Shahana Goswami and Nowaz are the new talents who will bring this interesting story alive.
