| Idiots, this isn't a matter of how "cute" the animal is or using the animals with respect or anything like that.
Whales are important members of the oceans' ecosystems and reproduce very, very slowly. When people are going out and recklessly killing them, they're carving out their population in numbers that are near impossible for the whales to bounce back from on their own, which will, if people don't start regulating their hunting (or just stopping it altogether), lead to their extinction.
There are plenty of other less senstitive sources of food in the ocean. There's no reason to make whales part of our diet.
