Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox was just shipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers. And a few hours ago, the Cincinatting Reds shipped Ken Griffey Jr. to the Chicago White Sox. All’s in a days work in Major League Baseball.
First of all, the Red Sox got ripped. They did receive Jason Bay, but are you kidding? You get rid of Manny. I guess they didn’t have much of a choice, but Manny is still one of the scariest hitters in the game and was a huge reason for the Red Sox’s success. Trading him is a huge mistake because the Red Sox got so little back. Ortiz won’t be as effective as has been in the past, and the Red Sox lineup is going to be seriously hurt by this trade. Jason Bay is a solid hitter, but he is not Manny Ramirez. As a Yankees fan, this trade is the best thing that’s happened in the last week.
The Griffey trade also came as a surprise to me, but not for the same reasons. I really didn’t think Griffey was going to be traded. I am very happy that he did get traded though because he deserves to be on a title contender. He will provide a huge boost to the White Sox, and he has to be happy to be playing for a winning team again.
